GDPR
What does it mean for our business?
The way that you collect, store and use clients personal data is changing drastically. This overhaul to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) will enforce adherence to some of the strictest regulations worldwide. It is firmly putting customer protection first. This means that you as the business or “data controller” have new responsibilities that previously went unmonitored.
From 2018, you could be held accountable for anything not meeting requirements. For example, you could be asked why you have retained unused customer data. Can you answer? Or you could be asked to provide any or all of a customer’s data. Can you provide this? Within a short time frame?
Have you answered no to any of the above?
You need review your in-house systems and your digital plan for the future.
Ultimately what GDPR is striving for is for every business to have complete control and understanding of the way that data is being collected, stored and used. You need to have a transparent method of collection, a means of storing data that allows you to access any of it at any time, and you need to know exactly how the data you have on file is being used to target, market and sell to your customer base.
